The Nameless Traveler
I had to be a sailor
To cross the sea to you
I had to be a merchant
To turn a dime or two
I had to be a beggar
To know what's merciful
I had to be a lot of things
But in the end
what's what, who's who
I had to have the glory
To write the sacred text
I had to tell the story
To separate it from the rest
I had to build the vault
To burn down my chest
I had to do a lot of things
But in the end
What's done is done, for the best
I had to visit Babylon
To learn their ancient song
I had to visit ISIS
Where our rights were wrong
I had to visit Alexandria
To inflame the library long
I had to be everywhere
But in the end
I never belonged
