Art is an Excuse

Whether you write or you paint

Your endless thoughts in feud

You are ever aware on page

Art's an excuse to be nude

You may shape the culture

Dictate what's cool and bright

Or be a nothing nobody

'Cause you chose the artist's life

You'll sleep with your shadow

And wake up with it too

You will find the man

Always staring back at you

You'll present the most rancid

In the prettiest package

And they'll act as if it's not

The blandest pettiest adage

I wake up and I write

And I write and go to bed

It's always about how you read

And never what I said
